Bengaluru: A security lapse has come to light at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL 2026 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans. Allegations have surfaced that the feed for approximately 240 security CCTV cameras was disabled, raising concerns about surveillance at one of the league's most crowded venues.

Despite the disruption, officials promptly implemented alternative arrangements to ensure the match continued without any untoward incidents. Authorities confirmed that once the issue was detected, real-time monitoring was managed through backup measures.

This was the last league stage match played by the RCB team in Bengaluru. RCB will play their remaining two home matches in Raipur. After an incident that occurred following the 2025 IPL, permission to hold matches at Chinnaswamy was granted only after implementing stringent security measures. This current incident has now brought the stadium’s security and operational protocols under scrutiny.

What happened? According to the police, two employees of the subcontractor IVS Digital Solutions, Manjunath E and Abdul Kalam, gained unauthorized access to the stadium’s CCTV server room using deactivated access cards. They bypassed security protocols to enter without valid passes.

Once inside, the duo allegedly disconnected the NVR and fiber connections, which disrupted CCTV surveillance in key areas of the stadium. This included cameras placed around entrance gates, concourse sections, the Corporate Stand, and the stadium premises.

This breach significantly impacted real-time monitoring during the match, leaving critical zones unmonitored. However, officials stated that alternative arrangements were implemented immediately upon detection, ensuring that security was not compromised during the game.

A case has been registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station, and an investigation is underway to determine the extent of the breach and any potential motives.
