Lucknow: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vice-captain Rinku Singh played a key role in his team’s victory in Sunday’s match, delivering an all-round performance with the bat, in the field, and during the Super Over.
Batting first, KKR scored 155 for 7 in their allotted overs. Lucknow Super Giants also finished at 155, forcing the match into a Super Over. In the Super Over, Lucknow lost both wickets for just one run. KKR chased down the target on the first ball, with Rinku Singh hitting a boundary to secure the win.
Rinku Singh rescued KKR after a batting collapse and remained unbeaten on 83 runs off 51 balls, hitting 7 boundaries and 5 sixes. His innings helped the team cross the 150-run mark.
Breaks Dhoni’s record
Rinku’s 83 is now the highest score by a No. 6 batter in IPL history, surpassing the previous record held by MS Dhoni. In the 2011 IPL season, Dhoni had scored an unbeaten 70 off 40 balls for Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Key partnership and final over surge
Rinku shared a crucial 62-run partnership with Sunil Narine for the eighth wicket. Narine contributed 4 runs off 6 balls in the stand.
In the final over bowled by Digvesh Rathi, Rinku hit four sixes, taking KKR’s total past 150.
He also contributed in the field by taking four catches during the match.
