The stars of Aam Aadmi Party which were rising in the beginning of 2025 are not doing well now. The party had lost the Delhi Assembly elections last year. After this, it got the second major blow on Friday (April 24), when 7 out of 10 Rajya Sabha MPs of Aam Aadmi Party, led by Raghav Chadha, rebelled against the party. With the departure of all seven, now only 3 MPs of the party are left in the Rajya Sabha. The breakdown of such a large number of MPs in the party breaks any party.
In a press conference on Friday, Raghav Chadha said that he is going to break two-thirds of AAP’s MPs and merge them with BJP. This setback is a big blow for the party and its chief Arvind Kejriwal. In such a situation, questions are being raised that what effect will the separation of 7 MPs from the party have on the vote bank of Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab? The answer to this question lies in the lap of time.
Shock regarding Punjab politics
All these rebel MPs come from Punjab. In such a situation, it is being seen as a shock to the politics of Punjab. In fact, it is believed that this rift may harm the Aam Aadmi Party in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections in 2027. What remains to be seen is how these leaders will shock the party.
no full time leader
But, the thing to be seen closely is that out of the seven rebel MPs of Aam Aadmi Party, four MPs are not full time leaders. Ashok Mittal, Vikram Sahni, Rajendra Gupta are big businessmen of Punjab. At the same time, Harbhajan Singh has been a famous cricketer of India. In such a situation, only Raghav Chaddha, Swati Maliwal and Sandeep Pathak are full time leaders. These three MPs also do not have a strong support base.
Of these, except Chadha, not a single MP has ever won the MLA or MP elections. In such a situation, the Aam Aadmi Party does not appear to be suffering any significant loss on the ground due to his departure. However, even before this, many big leaders have given a shock to the party by leaving the Aam Aadmi Party. But, this did not have any significant impact on the party in the elections.
There have been shocks before
In the year 2015, the party’s founding members Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan and Professor Anand Kumar left the Aam Aadmi Party. After this, Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Kapil Mishra and Kailash Gehlot have left the party. Even after the departure of these leaders, Arvind Kejriwal has won the Delhi Assembly elections of 2015 and 2020 with a record number of seats. Apart from this, the party has also formed a historic government by winning in Punjab in 2022.
Strength of Aam Aadmi Party
Aam Aadmi Party has registered its strong position by winning seats in Gujarat and Goa assembly elections in 2022 itself. Actually, Aam Aadmi Party is a party running on the orders of ‘one leader’, where Arvind Jekriwal is at the centre. Therefore, even after the departure of any big leader from the party, the basic structure has not broken and it does not have any significant impact among the public. This clearly means that the second level leadership of the party has definitely weakened but the strength of the Aam Aadmi Party remains intact.
