Colombia Bomb Attack: A horrific terrorist incident has come to light in the South American country Colombia on Saturday. A bus traveling on the Pan-American Highway in the southwestern region suddenly exploded, killing 13 people and injuring 38. Five children are also said to be among the injured, who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
There was panic in the entire area
The Army Chief has termed the incident as a terrorist attack. According to Cauca region governor Octavio Guzmán, the explosion occurred near the municipality of Cajíbio as the bus was traveling on a highway. After the incident, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the entire area.
Criminal gang held responsible
Health Department Secretary Carolina Camargo confirmed that many innocent civilians were among the injured. At the same time, General Hugo Lopez, Commander of the Colombian Armed Forces, has called it a planned terrorist act. They have blamed the gang of notorious criminal named Ivan Mordisco and the Jaime Martínez faction for this attack.
It is being told that both these groups were previously dissident factions of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which did not accept the 2016 peace agreement and are still active in the region.
President strongly condemned the attack
Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro strongly condemned the attack, saying that those targeting innocent civilians and tribal communities are terrorists and drug traffickers. He described this as a serious link in the increasing violence in the country.
The past few days have seen an uptick in violence in southwestern Colombia, where at least 26 separate attacks have been recorded in two days.
