New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi suffered an injury scare during his side’s clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Saturday. Sooryavanshi seemed to have suffered from cramps as he limped off the field against SRH at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
The 15-year-old injured himself while fielding during SRH’s run chase after smashing a stunning ton to help RR post a strong total of 228/6, batting first in the game. Sooryavanshi slammed a blistering 103-run knock off just 37 balls, laced with five fours and a staggering 12 sixes. However, his ton went in vain as SRH chased down the target successfully to win the game by five wickets.
Speaking after the match, RR’s batting coach Vikram Rathour provided a crucial update regarding Sooryavanshi’s injury. Rathour confirmed that the 15-year-old suffered a hamstring issue, but assured that his injury was not serious. RR’s medical team treated the youngster, who was doing fine as per Rathour.
“He was feeling something in his hamstring but now he’s looking okay. They’ve treated him, so he’s looking fine. We’ll know in a day or so but doesn’t look like anything serious,” said the RR batting coach in the post-match press conference.
The incident took place during the fourth over of SRH’s run chase against RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Sooryavanshi was seen clutching his hamstring after pulling up while trying to stop the ball from going towards the boundary rope. The young gun looked in pain and was attended by the RR physio. He was then assisted on his way back to the dugout.
While his initial reaction suggested that the 15-year-old suffered from cramps, RR’s batting coach Rathour confirmed it was indeed a hamstring issue. The young batter might have to undergo scans to determine the extent of his injury. However, Rathour’s positive remarks have eased the concerns of RR fans.
