The 2026 London Marathon takes place today, with more than 59,000 people expected to complete the 26.2-mile course. The 2025 event set a world record for the number of finishers, despite hot conditions, with a total of 56,640 entrants completing the distance.
The route has remained largely unchanged since its inception in 1981. The point-to-point 26.2-mile route begins in Blackheath and finishes at The Mall near Buckingham Palace.
This year's elite races feature all four defending champions, Sabastian Sawe, Tigst Assefa, Marcel Hug, and Catherine Debrunner.
While in terms of sport stars, Aaron Ramsey, Sir Alastair Cook, Sebastian Vettel, Tony Adams and Dame Laura Kenny are all expected to take part.
Sir Mo Farah and England's Women's Rugby World Cup winner Ellie Kildunne have the honour of officially starting the event in Greenwich Park, and you can follow all the action as it happens below.
