New Delhi. Amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, Pakistan appears to be once again becoming a diplomatic hotbed. Before US delegations arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir held a crucial meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The Iranian Embassy in Pakistan shared information about this meeting on social media. Several senior officials, including Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, and Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baqai, were present at the meeting. According to reports, regional situations and bilateral issues between the two countries were discussed.

Earlier, upon arriving in Islamabad, Araghchi stated that his visit comes at a crucial time. He stated that the purpose of this trip is to coordinate closely with partner countries such as Pakistan, Oman, and Russia and to discuss the regional situation. He stated clearly that Iran prioritizes its neighbors and wants to work with them to find solutions to the current crisis.

US delegation arriving in Islamabad

Amid this diplomatic turmoil, a major initiative is also being seen from the US side. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday. However, Iran has refused direct talks. The US, on the other hand, claims that Iran has requested direct talks.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said there had been some signs of progress from Iran in recent days, though she did not elaborate. She expressed hope that the talks in Pakistan could yield positive results.

However, Iran has currently denied any plans for direct talks with the US. A spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry clarified that Iran will share its views through Pakistan, but a face-to-face meeting is not currently scheduled.
