After the match, Padikkal said that captaining the Karnataka cricket team has helped him a lot in becoming a better and complete T20 batsman. He believes that captaincy gave him an opportunity to understand the game from a different perspective. “Definitely I think becoming captain has given me a different perspective towards the game. It has given me the opportunity to understand how a bowler thinks, how captains take decisions on the field and what they try to do,” he said.
Padikkal said that this helped him improve many aspects of his game and play as per the match conditions. He said that now he is able to understand his role and situation better, which has improved his performance. He also praised Virat Kohli and said that despite achieving almost everything in cricket, Virat’s passion and energy is still the same. Padikkal said, “What I find most special about him is his energy and enthusiasm in every practice session. He has achieved a lot in this game, but still he gives his 100 percent in every match and every practice.”
He further said that this commitment of Virat inspires the rest of the players of the team as well. When a player looks so dedicated and passionate about the game, it impacts the entire team. Padikkal also told that during the transition from red ball Ranji Trophy to T20 cricket, he made many necessary improvements in his technique. “If you compare my Ranji Trophy batting with IPL batting, the changes will be clearly visible. But my confidence and belief is still the same,” he said. He believes that technical changes, captaincy experience and inspiration from senior players like Virat Kohli have made him a better batsman in the present times.
