Kathmandu: The Indian ambassador in Kathmandu, Naveen Srivastava, recently met with Nepal's new Energy Minister, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, to discuss collaborative efforts in the energy sector.

Shrestha, who assumed office as energy minister just last week, is part of the newly elected government led by Balendra Shah 'Balen' of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which achieved a significant victory in the recent elections.

During their meeting, the two officials focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in energy and water resource management.

The discussions highlighted the enduring partnership between Nepal and India, emphasizing a shared commitment to sustainable development and improved regional connectivity.

Both parties expressed their dedication to strengthening collaboration for the mutual benefit of their citizens.

Minister Shrestha conveyed his eagerness to further develop this partnership through ongoing dialogue and cooperative initiatives.

Prior to the elections in March, Nepal had signed a significant agreement to export 10,000 MW of electricity to India, along with a memorandum of understanding for renewable energy cooperation and the inauguration of three cross-border transmission lines.

These agreements were part of the External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's two-day visit to Nepal in January.

On the same day, Shrestha also engaged with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming to discuss various topics aimed at enhancing practical cooperation between their nations.

They exchanged insights on addressing current regional energy challenges, according to sources.
