Severe Heatwave and Rain Alerts Across Northern India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding a persistent heatwave in northern India over the next three to four days. Despite the ongoing heat, rain alerts have been announced for several states, which are expected to bring down the maximum temperatures. Additionally, central India is also under alert for heat conditions.


On April 25 and 26, thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching up to 70 km/h are anticipated in the sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal and Sikkim. From April 26 to 28, similar weather is expected in the plains of West Bengal and Jharkhand, while Bihar will experience thunderstorms on April 26 and 27. Assam and Meghalaya are also forecasted to face severe storms on April 26 and 27.


In northern India, Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, are likely to see moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning on April 24, 25, 28, and 29. Himachal Pradesh is expected to receive rain from April 24 to 30, while Uttarakhand will experience rainfall on April 24, 25, 26, and 28-30. Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh will see thunderstorms and rain from April 26 to 30, Uttar Pradesh from April 28 to 30, and Rajasthan from April 27 to 29.


Rain alerts have also been issued for the northeastern states. The weather department predicts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Assam and Meghalaya on April 24, 25, and 28-30, and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from April 26 to 28. Arunachal Pradesh is expected to see rain on April 24 and 25. In eastern India, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecasted in West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha during various dates from April 24 to 30.
