New Delhi: Virat Kohli scripted history by becoming the first batter in the world to score 10,000 runs in a single country in T20 cricket on Friday, April 24. Kohli achieved the remarkable feat with his match-winning 81-run knock in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) five-wicket win over the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in the IPL 2026.

Kohli slammed 81 off 44 balls, laced with eight fours and two sixes, to help RCB chase down the target of 206 runs with seven balls to spare to bag a thumping victory against the Gujarat Titans. RCB concluded their home leg at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on a high with the win and jumped to the second spot on the IPL 2026 points table.

While he played a starring role in his side’s victory, Kohli also entered his name in record books by becoming the first player to complete 10,000 runs in a single country in T20 cricket. Kohli needed 49 runs against GT to go past the 10,000-run mark in India, and he managed to achieve the feat in style with his terrific 81-run knock.

No other player in the world has yet managed to get past the 10,000-run mark in a single country in T20 cricket. Kohli leads the elite list with 10,032 runs in 291 T20 matches in India, followed by his Indian teammate Rohit Sharma, who has notched up 8,563 runs in 319 matches in India in the shortest format.
