In this case, the Punjab Police had appealed to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ban the telecast of this film. Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav has shared a video regarding this matter on X (formerly Twitter). Also, it was written in its caption that the Cyber ​​​​Crime Division of Punjab Police had written a letter to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) against Lawrence’s docu series. They demanded a ban on the screening of ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ under IT Act Section 69. Taking strict action on this appeal, the Ministry has issued an advisory to the OTT platform ZEE5. According to which, instructions have been given not to release Lawrence’s docu series on the OTT platform.

The director had described the series as a case study

Director of this series Raghav Dar says that his aim is to show the life of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his network as a case study. In the trailer, an attempt has been made to show the process of formation of a criminal identity through the influence of student politics, music, ideology and media. The makers claim that this is not just the story of one person but an investigation of the social structure in which such identities are formed. However, critics believe that in such content, criminals are often given more importance by keeping them at the center, which sends a wrong message to the society.

Sidhu Moosewala’s father has demanded to ban the series

Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh had expressed strong objection to this series a few days ago and demanded to ban it. He had said that gangsters are being presented as heroes, which can be dangerous for the youth. He told the government that there are many martyrs, sportspersons and scientists in Punjab whose inspirational stories can be shown, then why is the focus being focused on only one criminal.
