American company Anthropic has launched a new AI model Mythos, which is causing a stir across the world. It is believed that the model can pose a big threat to the data of the country’s banking system. In this connection, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav held a meeting with banks and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday. This meeting was about the threat of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
It has also been claimed that this new AI model has found shortcomings in the major operating systems of the country’s banking and financial system. In future, it can become even more dangerous, due to which it can also gain access to the money of banks and financial institutions. The government is also worried about these things and a meeting has been held.
What was discussed in the meeting?
Many things were seriously discussed in the meeting with RBI and banks. Nirmala Sitharaman spoke about potential cyber security risks associated with Anthropic’s cloud mythos model in a high-level meeting with heads of several banks. The Finance Ministry said that Nirmala Sitharaman has warned about the possible impact of the cloud mythos. The post said the threat from Mythos is ‘unprecedented and requires a higher level of vigilance, preparedness and better work among financial institutions and banks.’
Tension increased in the world
The Indian government is not the only government that is keeping an eye on Mythos. According to reports, the US government has also talked to several Wall Street banks to take similar steps. The White House also plans to use Mythos across all its agencies to strengthen cybersecurity.
What is the government’s plan?
Mythos is considered so powerful that anyone can hack any organization or banking system using it, but to deal with this potential threat, the Finance Ministry is planning to create an infra that will identify and take action against any such attempts.
During the meeting, Nirmala Sitharaman has asked banks to take necessary precautionary measures to secure their IT systems and protect customer data. The Finance Ministry further said that it was suggested that a robust mechanism be put in place to share real-time threat intelligence between banks, @IndianCERT and other relevant agencies. This system will be used to identify threats and share information across the entire banking system in India.
Nirmala Sitharaman has advised the Indian Banks Association (IBA) to develop a system. This will ask for quick response to deal with any possible threat. Sitharaman has directed banks to work closely with cyber security experts and agencies and strengthen their security to protect against any possible cyber attack.
What is the cloud mythos?
Cloud Mythos is Anthropic’s most powerful AI model. According to the AI startup, this model is so good in cyber security that it cannot be released to the general public. The company says that Mythos has detected thousands of cyber security vulnerabilities which were otherwise difficult to find. These also include a 27-year-old flaw present in major operating systems and web browsers.
Anthropic has said that making it available would be like handing new hacking capabilities to anyone with a laptop. This means that Mythos can take advantage of security flaws we never knew existed. Till now Anthropic has given access to Cloud Mythos only to 40 selected companies including Amazon, Microsoft and Google. However, according to reports, a group of unregistered users have gained access to Mythos, allowing them to take advantage of cyber security.
