The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bounced back in style with a commanding 103-run victory over their fierce rivals, the Mumbai Indians (MI), in Match 33 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
After winning the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya decided to put CSK in to bat. The visitors piled up an impressive 207 runs in their 20 overs, largely thanks to Sanju Samson, who remained unbeaten on 101. He really turned it on in the final over, scoring 16 runs to notch up his second century of the season.
In response, MI had a night to forget, getting bowled out for a mere 104 in just 19 overs. Their innings got off to a disastrous start, losing Danish Malewar, Quinton de Kock, and Naman Dhir in quick succession, leaving them reeling at 11 for 3.
CSK’s spinners dominated the game, not only taking crucial wickets but also stifling the scoring. Akeal Hosein was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets for just 17 runs in his four overs, while Noor Ahmad contributed with two wickets of his own.
As is often the case in IPL matches, the clash between MI and CSK saw a flurry of records being broken and players achieving personal milestones.
However, not all records are ones to celebrate. With such a heavy defeat, the Mumbai franchise found themselves on the wrong end of some rather unfortunate records in IPL history. Meanwhile, centurion Samson also reached a few personal milestones during this match.
