The Enforcement Directorate has launched simultaneous raids across Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Tirupati in 20 locations on Friday, in AP liquor scam case.
The raids have been underway at the residences of former MP YS Vijayasai reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Raj Kasi Reddy, Balaji Govindappa, Krishna Mohan, Dhanunjaya Reddy, Avinash Goud, Muppidi Avinash, and Sajjala Sridhar Reddy. The raids have been initiated based on an already registered ECIR and are the second round of searches in the case.
The ED has identified illicit proceeds generated through liquor sales, which were allegedly diverted to shell companies, resulting in financial gain for the beneficiaries.
In its previous investigations, the ED had estimated that illicit proceeds amounting to approximately Rs 1,000 crore was received by the beneficiaries. Officials recovered property documents and other records related to financial transactions.
Who are the accused and how are they related to former CM YS Jagan Reddy?
Close associates of former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy including Dhananjay Reddy, who served as his secretary and Krishna Mohan, who was the officer on special duty, are under scrutiny.
Dhananjay Reddy reportedly instructed officials to allow manual overrides in procurement systems and participated in review meetings related to operations.
The ED alleges that Vijayasai Reddy was also involved in supply orders and distilleries had to meet certain conditions to secure business.
Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy was involved in handling movement of money, transporting cash and changing records. Raj Reddy was allegedly the main face of the liquor cartel. About Rs 3,200 crore was laundered through a network of firms, including Adan and Leela Distilleries.
The money was directed into real estate projects via companies such as Eshanvi Infra Projects. To hide the ownership, properties were purchased in the names of family members.
