Tilak Varma and Jamie Overton were seen engaged in a heated argument during the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) home game against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 33 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium.
Both MI and CSK are considered to be the fiercest rivals in the history of the IPL, with both sides winning five titles each. The rivalry was very much seen on the field when Varma and Overton had a heated exchange at the non-strikers’ end.
In the 10th over, Overton was preparing to bowl to Varma, but the left-handed batter stopped the right-arm seamer before he could start his run-up. This did not go down well with the England international, who confronted the batter once he changed sides.
Suryakumar Yadav, who was batting alongside Varma, had to intervene and chatted with Overton to support his fellow MI and India teammate. Following the exchange of words, the batter was also seen making a frustrating gesture with the bat, before both players went about their separate ways at the end of the over.
Overton went for 13 runs in that particular over as the hosts tried to rebuild their innings following the loss of three wickets.
