BMW Motorrad has launched the much-awaited F450 GS adventure motorcycle in India. It is priced from BMW F450 GS Launched In India At Rs 4.70 lakh, ex-showroom. Four trims are available in international markets- Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and GS Trophy. The Base, Exclusive and GS Trophy variants are available in India.
The F450 GS has become BMW Motorrad’s most affordable adventure bike and replaces the G310 GS in its lineup. It will be manufactured at the TVS factory in Hosur. The manufacturer is already accepting orders for the F450 GS.
Increased localisation and local manufacturing have helped BMW in pricing it competitively. It has also helped in improving the overall supply chain efficiency. This strategy had worked well in the case of the 310 twins- G310 R and G310 GS. It is even more important for the F450 GS.
In India, the F450’s primary rival is the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. It is currently priced in the range of Rs 3.05 lakh – Rs 3.37 lakh, ex-showroom.

On the design front, the production-spec F450 GS remains largely unchanged from the concept that was showcased at EICMA 2024. The production-spec was first showcased at EICMA 2025. It gets the GS family’s signature beak, a sculpted 14-litre fuel tank, a tall windscreen, and more.
It also has a strong road presence and rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels- both wirespoke units with tubeless tyres. The bike thus has a pronounced road bias. A visible influence of the BMW R1300 GS can be seen in its design, particularly in the X-themed DRLs and in the overall stance.
The F450 GS is built on an all-new platform, co-developed by BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company. It is a clear departure from the older 310 platform. The F450 GS has a kerb weight of around 178 kg, making it easy to maneuver in city traffic and on trails. Also, this makes it ideal even for less-experienced riders. The seat height, however, is on the taller side- 845mm.

The F450 GS is equipped with features like a large 6.5-inch TFT rider’s console, smartphone connectivity, navigation, selectable riding modes (Rain, Road and Enduro), dynamic traction control, 6-axis IMU and cornering ABS.
The new platform strikes a better balance between touring and off-road abilities. The suspension setup consists of 43 mm upside down front forks and a rear mono-shock. Both ends offer 180mm of travel. Higher variants will come with a fully adjustable suspension setup.
The bike gets 310 mm front floating disc brakes with a Brembo four-piston fixed calliper and a 240mm rigid disc at the rear with a single-piston floating calliper.

The biggest talking point of the F450 GS is its engine. It comes with a newly developed 450cc liquid-cooled, four-valve, parallel-twin engine, capable of producing around 48 hp and 45Nm. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.
The shift to the twin is claimed to deliver significant improvements in refinement and ride quality- less vibrations, smoother power delivery and better cruising ability.
Additionally, the higher variants come equipped with BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) system. This is a semi-automatic clutch technology that allows you to shift gears by automatically engaging or disengaging the clutch accordingly. It can be very convenient in Indian riding conditions, particularly in stop-and-go traffic.

It uses a centrifugal clutch mechanism to do this based on engine speed. In practical terms, this means the rider does not need to operate the clutch in slow-moving traffic. This reduces fatigue significantly. It also prevents engine stalling, thereby addressing one of the major concerns faced by many beginner riders during off-roading.
Another highlight of the ERC is its mechanical simplicity. It doesn’t rely heavily on electronic actuators or ECU. Instead, it is very mechanical. This makes it lighter and potentially more reliable than fully automatic units found on larger bikes. BMW has also equipped it with quick-shifters, for a more seamless riding experience.
