There is some bad news coming from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp as their former skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is still likely to sit out of the upcoming El Clasico match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday. CSK has been hit by a massive injury list in their camp, and now a delayed return of MS Dhoni is only harming the team.
MS Dhoni is still recovering from his calf strain, and despite undergoing intense training sessions ahead of the upcoming IPL game, he has not attained his full fitness, which can make him ready. The development comes as a huge setback for all the CSK fans who were eagerly waiting for their former skipper to play.
Although MS Dhoni is also eyeing a comeback as quickly as possible, the team management knows the injury intensity, and they are fully focused on his recovery. The management is closely monitoring the situation, and they are making sure that no harmful risk is being taken during this stage.

Ahead of the high-stakes clash against the Mumbai Indians, Ruturaj Gaikwad provided an update on MS Dhoni’s injury:
"We were playing a practice match; that's when he [MS Dhoni] snapped his calf, and then he wasn't able to run as comfortably as he wanted to. And I think after that it was just about him seeing some of the youngsters playing in practice games or in match simulations where he felt confident enough about them, who are ready and who have that ability to play in the IPL. And, after that, it was just about taking time on his recovery, and slowly, slowly he's getting there. Never know, maybe next game, maybe after that, but definitely one day for sure.”
However, there are chances that MS Dhoni could make his return to IPL 2026 against the Gujarat Titans, which is set to take place on Sunday, April 26.
The former champions are struggling with their form this season, having had a rough start to their IPL 2026 campaign already. They have just secured two wins with four losses in their 6 matches and are sitting in eighth spot in the points table already.
