The Kritika Kamra Matka King character Gulrukh brings back the charm of 1970s fashion on screen. The actress shared that she took inspiration from icons like Parveen Babi, Zeenat Aman, Sharmila Tagore, and Rekha while shaping her character’s look.
As per Times of India reports, talking about the process, Kritika shared that the team really took time to understand the vibe of that particular era. Especially for Kritika Kamra‘s character, Gulrukh. It all started with a photo of Parveen Babi that the director Nagraj showed her. Right from there, the team explored references from Zeenat Aman, Sharmila Tagore, and Rekha. Matka King‘s costume designer, Priyanka Dubey, conducted several trial sessions with her to get everything right.

Not just actresses, Kritika Kamra shared that the inspiration was also taken from Parsi events and jazz clubs. The look was entirely curated, right from the hair to the shoes and accessories. All of these were sourced with great care. She further mentioned that the team also looked into real pictures of the jazz clubs, Parsi events, and races that were documented during that era.
She added that the costume, hair, and makeup were a big part of the character and helped her find the poise that Gulrukh needed.

About Matka KingSpeaking about her latest project, the show also features Vijay Varma and Sai Tamhankar. Set in 1960s Mumbai, it follows an ambitious cotton trader who, in his quest for respect and legitimacy, introduces a new gambling game called ‘Matka’.
Kritika Kamra plays Gulrukh, a young Parsi widow from a privileged yet sheltered background who gets pulled into this high-stakes world. Speaking at a recent press meet, she said that Gulrukh comes from a place of power and privilege but still feels powerless, and that her journey is about finding her own strength as she steps into a world very different from the one she grew up in.
