Mumbai: On Thursday morning, actor and politician Kamal Haasan, along with his daughter Shruti Haasan, exercised their right to vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Shruti took to her Instagram Stories to share a snapshot of her inked finger, asking her followers, “Did you vote?”
She later posted another photo featuring herself with her father, both proudly displaying their inked fingers for the cameras.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections kicked off on Thursday, covering all 234 constituencies, with over 57.3 million eligible voters ready to choose from 4,023 candidates in a highly competitive four-way race.
The main contenders include the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking this as one of the most fiercely contested elections in recent memory.
Voting began early, with long lines forming at polling stations, showcasing the public's eagerness to engage in the electoral process.
Among the early voters was actor Sundar C, who is also a candidate for Madurai Central. He cast his vote at a polling location in Mandaveli, Chennai, accompanied by fellow actor Khushbu Sundar and their daughter. The family waited in line with other voters before making their selections.
Vote counting is set for May 4, which will reveal the next government for Tamil Nadu.
In terms of his film career, Kamal Haasan is set to appear in the sequel of Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, which features stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas.
The film is set in a dystopian future in 2898 AD, focusing on a group tasked with protecting the unborn child of lab subject SUM-80, who is believed to be Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu.
Shruti Haasan was last seen in the film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which also features Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Rachita Ram.
