Chennai: Voting for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu commenced at 7:00 AM and is proceeding briskly across the state. As of 11:00 AM, the overall voter turnout stands at 37.56 percent, representing a significant increase of 11 percent compared to the 26.29 percent recorded during the same time in the 2021 Assembly elections.

Given a total electorate of 5.73 crore voters, the 37.56 percent figure indicates that more than 2.15 crore people had cast their votes by 11:00 AM. Citizens have been standing in queues to cast their votes since early morning.

Tiruppur district recorded the highest voter turnout among all districts, while Ramanathapuram district recorded the lowest. In all four districts of the Kongu region—Erode, Salem, Tiruppur, and Namakkal—voter turnout exceeded 40 percent. Overall, more than 40 percent of votes were recorded in 30 specific constituencies across the state.

The district-wise turnouts recorded are as follows: Erode 41 percent, Tiruppur 42.45 percent, Namakkal 41.41 percent, Salem 40.56 percent, Dindigul 39.05 percent, Karur 39.70 percent, Kancheepuram 39.48 percent, Nagapattinam 37.77 percent, Kallakurichi 37.30 percent, Krishnagiri 36.53 percent, Kanyakumari 34.68 percent, Ramanathapuram 34.02 percent, and The Nilgiris 32.62 percent.

Comparison to previous election

Notably, during the previous Assembly elections held in 2021, the voter turnout in Tamil Nadu stood at 26.29 percent as of 11:00 AM. The current turnout of 37.56 percent represents an increase of 11 percent compared to that previous figure, indicating heightened voter enthusiasm in this election.
