New Delhi. Popular comedy actor Gop of the early days of Hindi cinema brought smiles on the faces of millions of viewers with his acting, but the end of his life was so unexpected that even the film industry was surprised.
Comedy turned audience favorite
Gop was one of the few artists of his time whose screen entry itself made people laugh. His comic timing and unique characters made him special. He played memorable roles in the film “Patanga” and many other films. The famous song “Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon” was also a part of his film, which made him more popular.
Besotted with unique characters in films
The names of Gop’s characters were as funny and memorable as their acting. His roles as “Manik Lal Makkhi Choos” in “Makkhi Choos”, “Udhaar Chand Dabbu” in “Pocketmaar” and “Tarana” made the audience laugh a lot. He also played the role of villain in some films, but maintained a comic style in that too.
Hit pair with Yakub
The pairing of Gop and actor Yakub was one of the popular couples of that era. Both of them worked together in many films and gave a lot of entertainment to the audience.
Personal life and personality
Gop’s personal life was equally interesting. He was married to actress Latika, who was of Anglo-Nepalese origin. He also changed his religion for marriage. It is said that after his death, his wife had gone abroad with the children.
The film ‘Teesri Aankh’ and that painful incident
The most shocking incident happened during the shooting of his last film “Teesri Aankh”. In one scene he had to act out a heart attack. He acted very realistically in the falling scene. The crew thought it was a great performance and did not get up even after saying “cut”. It was later revealed that Gop had actually suffered a heart attack and had died.
Applause on the set, but could not return
The saddest thing was that after the scene in which he played death, people kept clapping in praise of his performance, whereas in reality he had said goodbye to this world.
end of an era
Gop’s departure was a big blow to the film industry. The audience, who always saw him laughing, was deeply shocked by his sudden death.
