A beloved UK carvery chain has made a major announcement: one restaurant will close next month. Toby Carvery in Meridian Park, Romford, has announced it will close in two weeks' time.

The Romford restaurant will close its doors for good after service on May 10. The roast-dinner chain said it would try to redeploy as many staff as possible to other locations, and said it would like to return to Romford at some point in the future. Bosses have hopes that "as many employees as possible" can be moved to nearby branches and that a new location can open when a site is found.

While the Meridian Park branch will close, other nearby locations, such as the Toby Carvery Moby Dick in Chadwell Heath, which is just an eight-minute drive away, will remain open. A spokesperson for Toby Carvery said: "We can confirm the Toby Carvery at Romford will close on May 10 after service, and the site will be returned to the landlord.

"This decision has been taken after careful consideration and as part of the continual review of our estate and we are in consultation with the team and hope to redeploy as many employees as possible at our other nearby businesses.

"There are still two weeks for locals to enjoy Meridian Park and we look forward to bringing our famous salad bar and fresh rotisserie back once we've identified the right site.

"In the meantime, it's only a short drive for our loyal guests to enjoy the Toby Carvery Moby Dick in Chadwell Heath, Woodford Green or Brentwood. We'd like to thank our loyal guests and the brilliant team at Romford for their support."

This comes after Toby Carvery made a huge change to its 158 restaurants in October of last year. The chain stopped offering full-fat Pepsi as a refill option.

This was due to new regulations aimed at tackling obesity in children. The rule bans multi-buy promotions on unhealthy food and drinks.

As a result, restaurant chains such as Toby Carvery can't offer free refills on certain full-fat drinks, like Pepsi as opposed to Pepsi Max.
