A major US homeware brand is set to open new stores across the UK less than a year after launching in the country. Pottery Barn is an American home and furniture retailer that has been operating for 77 years, since 1949.
Britain is the latest place Pottery Barn has expanded to, as the brand operates stores in over 60 countries across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. The brand will now be opening concessions in John Lewis stores across the UK, including in Glasgow and Liverpool. One of these concessions launched earlier this month at John Lewis Partnership's Peter Jones store in London's Sloane Square.
Brits are already excited, with one saying on Instagram: "I love everything you have! This is NOT going to help my bank account." Shoppers have compared Pottery Barn to IKEA, suggesting the US homeware brand is "higher quality". Another wrote: "My favourite furniture and decor store in all the world! Excited beyond measure." One added: "Can't wait to browse your collections."
One shopper said: "You get what you pay for at IKEA, sometimes they'll have some of the nicer sofas at right around the same price as everyone else. Generally though, Pottery Barn Items are much much higher quality."
Its first UK concession opened in October 2025 at West Elm, a store off Oxford Street, which is owned by the same parent company as Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma. The retailer's first standalone store opened earlier this year in Westfield shopping centre in London.
Williams-Sonoma Inc. executive vice president global, Michelle Hummel, said: "Our expansion from John Lewis online into more John Lewis stores across the UK marks an exciting milestone for West Elm and Pottery Barn, allowing more customers to experience both brands beyond our London flagship store.
"We already know the products across both brands resonate strongly with UK customers, and that the connection is even stronger when people can see and feel them in person.
"That's why we're delighted to be growing our national presence through our ongoing partnership with John Lewis, as we look ahead to what will be an exciting year for both West Elm and Pottery Barn."
John Lewis director of home, Jason Wilary-Attew, added: "We are thrilled to bring the West Elm and Pottery Barn experience to more of our shops across the UK, building on the fantastic success we've seen online.
"At John Lewis, we know our customers value the opportunity to see and feel the quality of our curated collections in person.
"This expansion is a key part of our commitment to offering a truly inspiring multi-channel shopping experience, and we look forward to a very exciting year ahead alongside our partners at both brands."
