Fact check: Is One8 Commune Bengaluru shut over ₹2 crore dues? Here's the truth
International Business Times | April 23, 2026 2:39 AM CST

Virat Kohli is once again making headlines not for cricket or social media activity, but for the closure of a restaurant he is associated with. The Bengaluru outlet of One8 Commune, located near M Chinnaswamy Stadium, has been shut following a court order linked to a rent dispute.

The claim

As per multiple reports, the reason the restaurant was shut was that it reportedly defaulted on rent and related payments for nearly six months. According to reports, total outstanding dues—including rent, maintenance charges, and revenue share—exceeded ₹2 crore.

Following repeated reminders and non-payment, the property owner approached the court. The court subsequently directed that the premises remain closed until all outstanding dues are cleared.

Virat Kohli's reported exit from the outlet

It has also been reported that Virat Kohli had already withdrawn his association with the Bengaluru outlet prior to its closure and removed his branding from the property.

According to reports, this move followed compliance-related concerns, including alleged fire safety and regulatory issues. However, there has been no official detailed public statement from Kohli's side specifically addressing the Bengaluru closure.

Brand clarification

Amid media reports, One8 Commune issued a clarification disputing claims that the shutdown was due to unpaid dues or financial default.
