"Pant doesn't Deserve Even 27 Rupees": Rishabh Pant Faces Fan Backlash After Another Low Score in LSG vs RR
Cricket Gully | April 23, 2026 2:39 AM CST

Rishabh Pant who leads Lucknow Super Giants faced another failure to score when he got out without a run at Ekana Cricket Stadium during their match against Rajasthan Royals.

Lucknow needed to chase 160 runs to secure an easy victory because their bowlers had succeeded in limiting Rajasthan to a substandard batting performance. But Pant’s early dismissal added pressure at a key moment in the match.

Pant walked in after a quick wicket but could not settle. He tried to play an attacking shot too early and ended up losing his wicket without scoring. This season has presented him with another setback which continues to be a difficult period for his professional life.

Poor Shot costs Pant his wicket

Pant’s dismissal came against Nandre Burger. Pant attempted to pull the short ball toward mid-wicket area. However, he did not connect properly and only managed to get an edge. Dhruv Jurel caught the ball when it went directly behind the stumps. Pant batted for only three balls before he got out which put his team in a difficult situation.

This kind of shot selection has been a problem for Pant this season. He has often tried to attack too early instead of building his innings. His seven matches resulted in 147 runs with only one major performance.

His scores show the struggle. His only innings to achieve consistency comes from the unbeaten 68 runs he scored against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The scores of 7, 10, 18, 1 and 43 demonstrate his lack of consistent performance.

Bowlers give strong start to Lucknow

Before the chase, Lucknow bowlers did a solid job. The trio of Mohammed Shami, Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav took two wickets each while they maintained control over the batting performance of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan lost early wickets and could not build big partnerships. The team achieved their total target of 160 runs which remained within chasing reach of the opposing team.

Mayank Yadav allowed 20 runs to Ravindra Jadeja during his final over which enabled Rajasthan to reach a competitive total. At halftime, Lucknow maintained a dominant position.

Coach reaction shows growing frustration

Pant’s early dismissal did not go down well with the team management. Justin Langer the head coach displayed visible anger after the wicket fell. He left the dugout area to express his frustration. Pant is under criticism from many quarters with respect to his game throughout the season. Taking high-risk shots during critical situations during tight games cost the team dearly. There are other responsibilities that come along with being a team captain.

The spotlight was on players like Mitchell Marsh and others with Pant in the dugout again. These players need to step up and ensure the team wins by guiding them through the chase.

It is noteworthy that Lucknow had lost three consecutive matches ahead of this game. A win was crucial for the team in order to turn their fortunes around. The team requires Pant to up his game while making sound decisions in future games.
