New Delhi: Frustrated at being unmarried, a man in Pune put up fake posters showcasing himself as a police officer to attract marriage proposals but instead of getting a match he is now facing a police case.

According to an NDTV report, 26-year-old Rishikesh Raju Jadhav’s lie would have remain hidden if not for Pune Police’s drive against illegal banners.

How a drive against hoardings undone him

“We became aware of it through our drive against illegal banners and posters. Upon investigation, it was found that he was not selected for the police force but had falsely claimed to be selected, deceiving others,” a police officer told NDTV.

A resident of Pune’s Narhe Road, Jadhav apart from putting posters and flex banners also took photographs of himself in a police uniform and put them on social media. He falsely claimed that he had been recruited into the Pune City Police Commissionerate. He also distributed sweets in his locality. He did this to impress young women and their families.

In fact he was a vegetable seller. A police team from Nanded visited his place to congratulate him. When asked to produce his appointment letter and other documents, he couldn’t. This raised suspicion, and an inquiry later revealed that he had no connection with the police and his claims turned out to false.

To pretend he had a job, he concocted this lie

Jadhav told police that he took this path out of frustration for not getting marriage proposals. “When asked about the reason, he said he was unable to get married. To pretend he had a job, he concocted this lie. So, the police have taken action,” the police official added.

He has been booked under Section 204 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for impersonating a public servant and misusing police insignia. Further investigations in the case are underway.
