Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were savaged by a royal commentator who branded them "royals for sale" following their latest "faux-royal tour" in Australia last week. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent four days Down Under attending a number of engagements linked to their projects.
Several royal watchers commented on the lukewarm reaction to the visit, which was carried out under tight security. The last time the Sussexes visited Australia was back in 2018, when they spent several days there as working members of the Royal Family.
However, their last tour lacked the pomp and pageantry of the first one.
Now, a royal commentator blasted the couple, dubbing them the "Montecito grifters" and accusing them of "milking" their royal titles.
The Sun's Jane Moore wrote: "Milking their 'Duke and Duchess' titles for all their worth, the Montecito grifters have just completed a Down Under 'royal tour' by any other name."
She added: "Remember when our late Queen - who would have been 100 this week - told Harry and Meghan that they couldn't be 'half-in, half-out' members of the Royal Family and they flounced off to America in a hissy fit?
"Well, four years after her death, they are 'royals for sale' and no one seems able, or perhaps willing, to stop them."
According to a statement released following their visit, Harry and Meghan's visit to Australia highlighted the "importance of connection in care, in community, in service, and in leadership"
The couple said they left Australia carrying with them the "stories, insights, and partnerships forged over these four days - grounded in a continued commitment to supporting communities and building a more connected, compassionate future".
