The Royal Family lined up for a new portrait to commemorate what would have been Queen Elizabeth II's 100th birthday on April 21, with King Charles and Queen Camilla at the centre of a stunning new photo released by Buckingham Palace. Charles and Camilla hosted a large reception at Buckingham Palace, bringing together representatives from 45 organisations that held the late Queen's patronage during her record-breaking 70-year reign.

After attending a multitude of events throughout the day, King Charles and Queen Camilla later stood for an official photograph with the nine other working members of the Royal Family. The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince Edward and the Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandra, all officially posed for the new portrait.

Several extended Royal Family non-working members were absent, including Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - reflecting King Charles's long-held belief that only working members of the monarchy should be spotlighted.

Royal Family members who did not appear in the photograph included Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who has withdrawn from public life following his association with Jeffrey Epstein, and the relinquishing of his titles. Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have been maintaining a low profile following the royal scandal and the release of Epstein files by the US Department of Justice.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who completed an Australian tour at the weekend, were also absent and have not visited the UK to attend any recent royal events.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh's children, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, 22, and James, Earl of Wessex, 18, did not attend as they are not working royals either. Zara, Mike Tindall and their children were similarly absent.

The Prince and Princess of Wales's three children were also absent from the image, as due to their young ages they are not currently working royals, though are expected to become them when they become of age.
