IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans Pacer Kagiso Rabada Seen Smoking in Team Hotel
Cricket Gully | April 22, 2026 6:39 PM CST

Kagiso Rabada faced some tough times last year when he was handed a one-month ban from professional cricket after failing a drug test. Fast forward to IPL 2026, and the Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer was spotted enjoying a cigarette with one of his teammates. While smoking isn’t illegal, the context surrounding this moment adds an intriguing layer for the South African star, who many young cricketers look up to.

The footage, which has gone viral on social media, seems to show Rabada relaxing on what appears to be a hotel balcony or an open space, casually smoking with a few others who are likely part of the GT team. The specifics of the video, including when it was filmed, are still a bit murky, and its authenticity hasn’t been confirmed. But that hasn’t stopped the buzz from spreading.

Kagiso Rabada Handed Ban in 2025 for Cocaine Violation

The main reason Rabada’s smoking video has gained so much attention is due to his recent past. In 2025, he faced a one-month suspension after testing positive for a recreational drug during the SA20. A cocaine metabolite was detected in a sample taken in January of that year. He was informed in April, left the IPL midway citing personal reasons, and later acknowledged it as an “error in judgment.”

Fortunately, his ban was shortened after he completed a treatment program and fully cooperated with the authorities, allowing him to return for the latter half of IPL 2025 and South Africa’s World Test Championship final. After facing some trolling during the WTC final, Rabada responded brilliantly, taking an impressive five-wicket haul to help South Africa secure their first World Cup title.

On the bright side, Rabada’s performance in IPL 2026 has been impressive. He’s taken 10 wickets in six matches this season, placing him among the top wicket-takers for the Gujarat Titans. With an average of 22.20 and an economy rate just under 10, he’s managed to keep his spot in the team, even with Jason Holder waiting on the bench.
