It's always interesting to listen to Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar 's life stories, as he mixes most of them with a tint of humor. Even as his latest horror-comedy, ' Bhooth Bangla ', dominates the box office, Akshay Kumar is showing a softer, more reflective side on his quiz reality show, 'Wheel of Fortune'. In the latest episode aired on April 21, 2026, the superstar recounted his school days, which featured teachers wielding sticks.

Akshay Kumar recalls a childhood incident

Contestant Snehan revealed he studied with the same tuition teacher as Akshay. He named the teacher as Pandey Sir. This prompted Akshay to share personal memories of his late teacher.

"Yeh jinke baare mein bol raha hain, voh mere bhi teacher reh chuke hain, unka naam Pandey sir tha. Pandey sir ki ek aadat thi unke hath mein hamesha ek stick hoti thi hume padate vakt, aur main kaafi badmash tha, aur voh maarne se pehle sochte nahi the. Lekin kuch bhi ho, Pandey sir se kaafi kuch sikha hain maine bhale voh abhi nahi rahe." (“Those he is talking about—he was my teacher too. His name was Pandey Sir. He had a habit of always holding a stick in his hand while teaching us. I was quite mischievous, and he never thought twice before hitting us. But regardless of that, I learned a lot from Pandey Sir, even though he is no longer alive.”)

Akshay admitted he was quite mischievous in school. He noted that Pandey Sir never hesitated before using the stick during lessons.

Akshay Kumar on feeling small due to educationIn an earlier episode of the same show, Akshay spoke honestly about his limited formal education. He said he sometimes feels small when surrounded by highly educated people.

"Koi bhi insaan, khaaskar mujh jaisa jo zyada padha likha nahi hai, main kabhi kabhi bahut chhota mehsoos karta hoon aap jaise logon ke saamne." (“Any person—especially someone like me who isn’t very educated—sometimes feels very small in front of people like you.”)

The 'Khiladi' actor added that he occasionally wishes he had studied more, but reading never appealed to him.

"Kabhi kabhi main sochta hoon mujhe padhna chahiye. Ab mehsoos hota hai ki kaash main padha hota. Lekin ab jab padhna chahta hoon tab bhi nahi padh sakta, kyunki mujhe padhna achha hi nahi lagta, bas itni si baat hai." (“Sometimes I feel like I should study. Now I realize that I wish I had been educated. But even when I want to study now, I can’t—because I simply don’t enjoy studying. That’s all.”)

'Bhooth Bangla' box office performance

Akshay’s recent horror comedy 'Bhooth Bangla' has performed well despite mixed reviews. The Priyadarshan-directed film opened to a solid first weekend and maintained steady collections during weekdays. It has now crossed the Rs 100 crore on the global front, as reported by Sacnilk.
