News India Live, Digital Desk: The sun is blazing in many parts of the country and the scorching heat (heat wave) has made life difficult for people. But do you know that this scorching heat is not only spoiling your skin and stomach, but can also prove fatal for your heart? Well-known cardiologists have warned that lack of water in the body i.e. dehydration directly increases the risk of heart attack. In such a situation, taking the heat lightly can be your biggest mistake.
What is the connection between heat and heart attack?
According to experts, when body temperature increases, the heart has to work harder to keep the body cool. Water and essential electrolytes go out of the body through sweat, due to which the blood starts thickening. Thick blood can form clots in the arteries, which is the main cause of heart attack. Additionally, dehydration can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, which can lead to an uncontrolled heartbeat.
5 major symptoms mentioned by cardiologist
Doctors have identified some signs that you should immediately become alert if you feel them:
Discomfort or heaviness in the chest: If you suddenly feel pressure or stiffness in the chest during summer.
Excessive sweating: If ‘cold sweat’ occurs despite sitting in a cold place, then it is an alarm bell.
breathlessness: Difficulty in breathing without any heavy work.
Dizziness and weakness: Dizziness or sudden darkness before the eyes.
Fast heartbeat: Feeling as if the heart is beating very fast (Palpitations).
What to do for protection?
Health experts advise not to wait to feel thirsty in this season. Keep drinking water little by little throughout the day. Increase your intake of fluids like lemon water, ORS, and coconut water. Avoid going out between 12 and 4 pm and if it is necessary to go out, keep your head covered. Heart patients need to be more serious about their medicines and routine checkups in this season.
These people are most at risk
The elderly, small children and people who are already suffering from blood pressure or diabetes are at the highest risk of heat stroke and heart attack. Youth going to the gym have also been advised to avoid doing high-intensity workouts in the scorching heat, as it can cause sudden increase in pressure on the heart.
