A Thai family accidentally left their 6-year-old daughter behind at a petrol station during a drive home from a beach trip, only realizing the mistake after traveling more than 130 kilometers.

The incident happened on April 14 after the family wrapped up a trip to Cha-am District in Phetchaburi Province and stopped at a petrol station in Ratchaburi Province so everyone could use the restroom, according to AsiaOne.

While the family was traveling in three separate vehicles, including two pickup trucks and a car, the girl went to the toilet and returned to find that her parents and relatives had already left, Tiger reported.

Relatives apparently assumed she was riding in another vehicle and continued on to Kanchanaburi Province, around 130 kilometers away.

Left alone at the station, the girl asked an employee for help, prompting staff to alert local police. Since she could not remember her family’s phone numbers, officers used the civil registration system to identify her parents and eventually reached her father in Bangkok. He then informed other relatives, who turned around to collect her.

Police said the child was frightened at first, but officers stayed with her and kept her safe until her family arrived.

The local police station later posted about the case on social media on April 15, saying it was pleased to help, though the post was later deleted.
