Friends, there may be a change in the Indian T20 team very soon, if reports are to be believed then the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to field two different Indian teams at the same time. If implemented, this strategy can reshape the way India plays T20 cricket, let’s know the complete details.
1. Plan for two T20I squads
BCCI is considering making two separate teams for T20 International.
To support this system, a main pool of 30-35 players can be created.
This move may come into effect after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
2. Why two teams?
India has to play several tournaments at the same time, including the Asian Games 2026 and the T20 series against the West Indies cricket team.
Managing players’ workload and ensuring strong teams for all events is a key priority.
This approach helps India remain competitive in concurrent tournaments without putting too much burden on the top players.
3. Focus on large talent pool
BCCI aims to create a flexible squad system, with backup players ready for international duty.
Similar strategies can be used for tours like Ireland and other bilateral series.
Which players are likely to be selected
batsman:
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajat Patidar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Priyansh Arya
Bowler:
Ravi Bishnoi, Kartik Tyagi, Ashok Sharma
wicket keeper:
Dhruv Jurel
Allrounder:
Shashank Singh, Anukul Roy
These selections will largely depend on the performance of the players in IPL and domestic cricket.
Leadership Structure: Two Captains?
With two teams in the field, India may also have two captains in the T20Is.
According to reports, Shreyas Iyer can be given the captaincy of either of the two teams.
