An American female tourist was raped in a homestay in Kodagu, Karnataka. Both the accused employee and the owner who helped hide the crime have been arrested. The police is investigating the matter
A shocking incident has come to light from Kodagu district of Karnataka. A female tourist from Washington, America, was allegedly raped in a homestay here. Police said on Wednesday that this incident happened about a week ago at a famous tourist spot in this area. According to the police, an employee working at the homestay entered the woman's room and raped her. It is being told that the accused is a resident of Jharkhand.
Accused of helping the owner hide the crime
Police said that the owner of the homestay was fully aware of the incident, but he did not help the woman. According to a report in India Today, the owner instead kept the woman locked in the room for three days. His mobile phone was also snatched away and he was threatened so that he could not go to the police.
The victim later informed about the incident
After somehow escaping from there, the woman reached Mysore. There he contacted the American officials and told them about the entire incident that happened to him. Based on the information received from the US Embassy, Karnataka Police registered a case and started investigation.
Arrest and police action
Police have arrested two people in this case – the main accused employee and the owner of the homestay. Both have been sent to judicial custody till May 3. Kodagu Superintendent of Police (SP) has confirmed the arrests and said that further investigation into the case is underway.
