Legendary singer Asha Bhole left a permanent void in the music industry when she passed away on April 12. She was 92. The singer, in her career spanning decades, has delivered countless hit songs that were loved across generations and even today, some of the tracks are reimagined with modern beats and rhythms that carry forward her legacy. Now, veteran Bollywood actress Mumtaz, who was a good friend of the late singer, has recalled a touching anecdote about Asha about their last meeting when she was admitted to the hospital.

Mumtaz’s last meeting with Asha Bhosle

Mumtaz recently appeared in an interview with Vickey Lalwani, where she opened up about her last meeting with Asha Bhosle. The actress revealed that she went to check on her at the hospital, but the doctors asked her to come the next day, as Asha was in a critical condition. As a result, Mumtaz could only see her dear friend from the outside.

But sadly enough, after Mumtaz got in her car and left the premises, she received a call from the hospital within 5-10 minutes. That’s when Mumtaz learned that Asha Bhosle was no more. Speaking about her personal bond with the iconic singer, Mumtaz told the host that Asha would often visit her at her house. ‘She was a very good friend,’ said the Do Raaste actress.

In another part of the conversation, Mumtaz remembered that Asha Bosle had once told her that singing the song Aaja O Mere Raja from the 1972 film Apna Desh was the most difficult track she ever sang. For the unversed, the movie featured Mumtaz and the late actor Rajesh Khanna in key roles. Asha had also lent her voice to soulful numbers in several Mumtaz’s films like Khilona (1970), Prem Kahani (1975), Roti (1974) and Aap Ki Kasam (1974), to name a few.

Mumtaz also spoke about how it was unrealistic to compare Asha Bhosle with her sister, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. ‘There is no comparison between the two. What Asha ji could sing, Lata ji couldn’t, and what Lata ji could sing, Asha ji couldn’t, noted the film veteran. Justifying her claim, Mumtaz added that while Asha added a playful touch with her peppy hits, Lata excelled in classical music.
