On Monday afternoon, two passenger aircraft were compelled to abort their landings after coming alarmingly close to each other near John F. Kennedy International Airport, leading to an investigation by U.S. aviation authorities. The event unfolded as both planes approached the runway at the busy New York airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that Republic Airways Flight 4464 executed a 'go-around' and strayed from its designated approach path shortly after 2:30 PM.

Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 revealed that the Republic Airways aircraft came within approximately 350 feet of another plane, Jazz Aviation Flight 554. The Republic flight, which was operating on behalf of American Airlines, entered the path of the Jazz Aviation aircraft as it was preparing to land.

Data indicated that the Republic Airways flight descended approximately 600 feet in mere seconds while flying over Long Island, while the Jazz Aviation flight, operating for Air Canada, ascended by nearly 1,000 feet. These swift maneuvers brought the two planes within less than the length of a football field from each other. The FAA confirmed that both flight crews reacted appropriately to onboard alerts, successfully averting a collision.

Republic Airways stated that its crew received a 'resolution advisory' from the aircraft's Traffic Collision Avoidance System, which alerts pilots to take immediate action to prevent a collision. Similarly, Jazz Aviation reported that its crew received a 'traffic warning notification and resolution', along with instructions from air traffic controllers. Fortunately, both aircraft landed safely shortly before 3 PM, with no injuries reported. The FAA is currently investigating the incident.
