"Fit and firing" Aiden Markram provides update on LSG Star bowler

Mayank Yadav is set to return to contention for Lucknow Super Giants after recovering from injury, with teammate Aiden Markram confirming the pacer is “fit and firing” ahead of their upcoming fixture against Rajasthan Royals. The update arrives at a critical juncture in IPL 2026, with LSG seeking to address both form concerns and squad balance following a series of inconsistent performances.

Mayank, who last appeared in May 2025, has been sidelined due to a lower back stress fracture that limited his participation across seasons. Known for clocking speeds up to 156.7 kmph, his absence has removed a high-pace option from LSG’s bowling attack. Markram, speaking before the Ekana Stadium clash, said,

“The last I heard is he’s fit and firing. A fit and firing Mayank Yadav adds great selection headaches to any team that he’s in he’s an X-factor bowler.”

Injury context and bowling combination

Mayank’s career trajectory has been shaped by brief appearances and recurring setbacks. During IPL 2025, he featured in only two matches, claiming two wickets, while his most recent outing saw him concede 60 runs against Punjab Kings. His initial impact in IPL 2024 had established him as a pace asset, but subsequent injuries disrupted continuity.

His potential inclusion now provides LSG with an additional pace option capable of altering match phases, particularly in powerplay and death overs. The management faces a selection decision balancing fitness workload and tactical deployment, especially on surfaces that have not consistently favoured bowlers this season.

Home form and tactical outlook

LSG’s immediate challenge remains their home record. The side has lost three consecutive matches at the Ekana Cricket Stadium and currently sits ninth on the table with two wins from six games and a net run rate of -1.173. The inability to convert home fixtures into results has been a defining trend.

Markram acknowledged the issue, stating,

“You want to make your home a fortress and perform for your fans.”

He added,

“We’ve got two games here back-to-back, and if we can have two good games, hopefully we’re back in the competition where we want to be.”

With fixtures against Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders scheduled in close succession, LSG’s approach is expected to centre on adapting combinations to pitch conditions while integrating returning players.
