FIR against many social media handles including writer Madhu Kishwar

Bureau Prayagraj. An FIR has been registered against writer Madhu Kishwar for spreading fake and misleading material on social media. Now Chandigarh Police has gone to his Delhi office and given him a notice and also asked him to join the investigation. He wrote on ‘X’, Since as per law the police are not allowed to meet or arrest women after dark and before sunrise, I spoke to the team head on phone. He told me that his team has come to Chandigarh to give notice regarding the FIR registered against me.

On the basis of the complaint, Chandigarh Police has registered a case against writer Madhu Kishwar and other social media handles in Sector-26 police station. An FIR has been lodged at Sector-26 police station against Kishwar and some other social media users under sections 196 of the Indian Justice Code (criminalising acts promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between groups on grounds of religion, race, language), 336 (1) (making forged documents) and 356 (criminal defamation) and relevant sections of the IT Act.

According to Chandigarh Police, a city-based complainant alleged on April 19 that certain fake and misleading social media posts and video clips, containing obscene text and content, were being circulated by various social media users, including false identification of the person seen in the video. According to the complainant, this is the act of knowingly creating a false electronic record by using obscene words and phrases, that too with the knowledge and sufficient reason to believe that the posts are misleading and false and that The intention is to cause harm or injury.

According to the complainant, the video, which was circulated with the intention of damaging the reputation of a constitutional officer and disturbing public peace and order, should be investigated and appropriate action should be taken. Meanwhile, Kishwar said in a social media post that a team of Chandigarh Police had come to his house late on Monday night to serve him a notice regarding the FIR lodged against him.

This case has started with an old video of a travel vlogger from Chandigarh. The vlogger’s wife has lodged a complaint with the police that an old video of her husband is being made viral on social media with wrong intentions. According to the complaint, the original video was tampered with and obscene words and objectionable text were added to it, which has been shared by many social media handles including Madhu Kishwar.

It is being told that on April 19, 2026, a local person complained to the police that some social media users were making a video clip viral with the identity of PM Modi. The complainant says that all this has been done deliberately. It is alleged that false and misleading electronic records were created on social media, in which foul language was used. Despite knowing that the posts are completely false, they were shared with the intention of damaging the reputation of the person and disturbing public peace.

Police investigation revealed that the person seen in the video is a travel vlogger, his wife regularly shares videos and updates to his activities on her social media account. The video was first posted from his own account. In her statement to the police, the woman clearly said that the person seen in the video is her husband. Police have also recorded the statements of another woman and her husband present in the video.
