New Delhi: A 27-year-old Bengaluru man’s life came to a shocking end when his girlfriend allegedly lured him to her house, then tied him up for a romantic “Western-style” marriage proposal and finally set him ablaze using kerosene.

The horrific incident unfolded in the Byadarahalli police station limits. It has left the local community in total disbelief.  The victim, Kiran and the accused, Prema used to work at a mobile store near Rajajinagar. According to the police, Prema felt that Kiran was pulling away and ignoring her, so she planned his murder. The accused planned the killing very carefully after things turned sour between the two recently.

How did Prema execute the murder?

Prema called Kiran over to her place in Anjanapura on Tuesday afternoon, making sure they were alone. She told him she wanted to surprise him with a “western-style” proposal, the kind where one partner gets down on one knee. As part of this, she convinced him to let her tie his hands and legs with rope and even blindfold him. When Kiran asked why the ropes were so tight, she simply told him it’s part of the “act.”

Once Kiran was completely helpless, the romantic proposal ended and Prema allegedly poured kerosene over him and set him ablaze. The young man was unable to break free or defend himself and finally died from severe burns.

Investigators found that the murder was planned in advance. While Prema initially tried to claim she was in the bathroom and came out to find him already on fire, but her story quickly fell apart as police found a kerosene can ready at the house and even more shockingly, they even suspect that she might have recorded the entire killing on her phone.

Police investigation underway

The authorities are currently connecting the dots, the digital and forensic evidence. “It is a murder committed by the girl. They were in a relationship, and she felt he was ignoring her of late. She has used kerosene and set him on fire,” confirmed police officials.

Police have already arrested Prema, and a murder case has been registered against her. As the investigation continues, the police are looking into the couple’s history of arguments to understand exactly what led to such a violent outburst. For now, a family is left mourning a son who walked into a house expecting love, only to find a death trap.
