Emotions ran extraordinarily high during the latest episode of BBC's Casualty.

On Saturday night (April 18), viewers witnessed a dramatic final instalment of the Learning Curve box set, which saw one much-loved character make her exit from the long-running medical drama.

Actress Jasmine Bayesjoined Casualty at the beginning of this year as Dr Kim Chang, alongside Aron Juliu, who portrays trainee doctor Matty Linlaker.

The latest episode of the BBC show delivered gut-wrenching scenes when Kim was discovered unconscious in her home by Matty, who found a box of appetite suppressants and laxatives.

Throughout the BBC series, Kim had been secretly battling an eating disorder, carefully concealing it from her colleagues.

Matty also uncovered a journal Kim had been keeping, which meticulously documented everything that Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) had ever said to her, reports the Mirror.

The helicopter medical team arrived swiftly after Matty raised the alarm, with Stevie also rushing to the scene upon learning of Kim's condition.

Tragically, Kim's situation deteriorated rapidly as she suffered multiple organ failure caused by the devastating impact the weight loss drugs had wreaked upon her body.

In harrowing scenes, CPR proved unsuccessful as blood poured from Kim's mouth, and she passed away.

Reflecting on her character's devastating storyline, actress Jasmine said in an Instagram video: "Filming this storyline for Kim was- it was tough.

"I was very aware of the importance of it. I knew that it's definitely a story that had to be shared. I liked how it showed how someone can be really struggling internally and invisibly, and you just wouldn't know about it, especially in a really, really busy workplace like the ED.

"Kim's story, like so many others that have been represented on Casualty, is based on very much real-life stories, real-life struggles and battles.

"We have an amazing research team here at Casualty. The writers and medical advisors, consultants that we have on set with us every day to make sure that these stories are told in the most truthful and respectful way that these stories really do deserve."

It was not long before viewers flocked to comment on the post, with many applauding Jasmine for her portrayal of Kim's heartbreaking storyline.

One person said: "Thank you for representing this storyline." Someone else commented: "I'll miss that fluffy pink pen."

Another fan wrote: "Thank you, Jasmine, you were amazing! Kim was such a good character, I'm going to miss her so much!"

Someone else shared: "Heartbroken that Kim wasn't given more time to develop as such a loved character, but I completely understand the importance of the devastating storyline in showing how quickly someone can get beyond, being well enough to recover, if they go unseen."
