Singer Jasmine Sandlas has candidly spoken about her past struggle with alcoholism, admitting that she “drank more than [she] should have” and expressing regret over decisions made during that phase of her life.

The Punjabi singer, who has recently gained attention for her work in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, shared details of her personal journey in a recent interaction, offering insight into a difficult period marked by emotional turmoil and loneliness.

Recalling how it began, Sandlas said she started drinking at the age of 23. She noted that prior to that, she had stayed away from alcohol, but personal struggles and emotional distress led her to seek coping mechanisms. “When life hits you, you look for support,” she said, describing the circumstances that pushed her towards alcohol.

The singer spoke about a combination of factors that contributed to her dependence, including family issues, grief and the pressures of success. She revealed that while she was achieving recognition professionally, her personal life was going through significant upheaval.

“A lot of things piled up — I was famous on one side, but I was feeling certain things… my family dynamics broke apart, my father was no more,” she said, reflecting on the emotional weight she was carrying during that time.

Despite being surrounded by people, Sandlas described feeling isolated. She said that social environments often gave the illusion of companionship, but internally, she experienced deep loneliness.

“It all looks wonderful from outside… there were always people around me, but I used to sit on the balcony alone,” she said, highlighting the disconnect between outward appearances and inner struggles.

Sandlas acknowledged that her drinking led to choices she now regrets. Looking back, she said those years were difficult but also formative, as they helped her understand her vulnerabilities and the need for change.

“I do regret some things I did in those 2-3 years… I drank more than I should have,” she said, adding that the phase, though challenging, was an important part of her journey.

The turning point, she noted, came with support from her family, particularly her mother. Sandlas credited her family for standing by her during her lowest moments and helping her navigate the path to recovery.

She described the process of overcoming addiction as a personal battle, requiring both emotional strength and external support. “My biggest fight was with myself,” she said, emphasising the internal struggle involved in breaking old habits.

Sandlas also spoke about the importance of consciously distancing herself from negative influences and making lifestyle changes. She said that removing “toxins” from her life and focusing on self-improvement helped her regain control.

Her reflections come at a time when she is experiencing renewed professional success, particularly with her music contributions to Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The contrast between her current phase and past struggles has added depth to her public narrative.

The singer’s candid admission has resonated with many, sparking conversations about mental health, addiction and the pressures faced by artists in the public eye.
