Indian Railways LPG Cylinder Rules: Indian Railways has imposed a ban on carrying LPG cylinders in trains. LPG cylinder is filled with liquefied petroleum gas which is highly flammable. A major accident can occur due to the explosion of butane and propane gas in the cylinder when it comes in contact with fire.

There can be punishment and fine for carrying gas cylinder in the train

Indian Railways LPG Cylinder Rules: Crores of passengers travel by train every day in the country. This is an important part of the Indian transport system. Many times, passengers unknowingly carry such items during the journey, which are banned. You may have to face problems if you carry such items with you while traveling by train. Apart from fine, there can also be jail sentence.

Which items cannot be taken by train?

Inflammable and explosive materials- LPG cylinder, gas stove, diesel, petrol, kerosene, gunpowder, firecrackers etc.

Dangerous chemicals – Acid, bleaching powder, phenyl etc.

Along with this, there is a ban on carrying wood, grass, spirit lighter.

Why can’t LPG cylinder be carried?

  • Indian Railways has imposed a ban on carrying LPG cylinders in trains.
  • LPG cylinder is filled with liquefied petroleum gas which is highly flammable.
  • A major accident can occur due to explosion due to butane and propane gas of LPG cylinder coming in contact with fire.
  • There is a danger of it bursting due to even the slightest spark, which can lead to loss of life of the passengers sitting in the train.
  • It is prohibited to carry empty cylinders along with gas filled cylinders during travelling.

How much punishment will be given for violation of rules?

  • Carrying empty or filled LPG cylinder in the train is considered a violation of rules.
  • Action can be taken under sections 67, 154, 164 and 165 of the Indian Railways Act 1989.
  • If a gas cylinder is caught in the train, a fine of Rs 1000 can be imposed on the concerned passenger.
  • Apart from fine, there can also be a punishment of 3 years.
  • This is the reason why passengers should avoid carrying flammable materials like LPG cylinders while traveling in the train.
