On Wednesday, Vijay, the leader of the Tamilga Vetttri Kazhagam (TVK), conducted a significant road show in the Panchatti area of the Ponnery assembly constituency to rally support for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. A large crowd gathered to show their backing for Vijay, who is transitioning from an actor to a politician. During the event, some TVK supporters experienced discomfort from standing in the sun for extended periods, prompting party workers to provide medical assistance. Several attendees fainted due to the heat.

Vijay's Political Aspirations

Vijay is entering the electoral arena through the TVK party, setting the stage for a potential three-way contest. He is set to compete against DMK's Inigo S Irudhayaraj from Tiruchirappalli East and DMK MLA RD Shekhar from Perambur. On Thursday, Vijay unveiled the TVK's election manifesto, which promises monthly financial aid of ₹2,500 for women and 8 grams of gold along with silk sarees for brides from families with an annual income below ₹5 lakh, should the party come to power in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections scheduled for April 23.

Commitment to Honest Governance

Vijay emphasized that the TVK has adopted honest governance as its core ideology. He stated, 'That’s why we assert that our party’s first election manifesto is also a pledge of integrity. Unlike Stalin, we will not mislead the public. We are not hastily releasing a manifesto filled with hollow promises.' He criticized both the ruling government and the opposition, asserting that both DMK and others are essentially the same. 'Compare the manifestos released by both parties; they are strikingly similar,' he remarked.

Critique of Political Promises

Vijay pointed out that if one party promises ₹10,000, another offers ₹8,000 in coupons. If one party pledges to provide refrigerators, the other gives tokens to buy them. 'Both have presented similar manifestos, merely changing names and colors. They are merely factions under the same umbrella of ideologies. However, we will never deceive the people like these two corrupt groups,' he concluded.
