Kiran Powar, former Mumbai and Baroda cricketer and brother of former Indian cricketer Ramesh Powar, has been made the new head coach of the Assam cricket team. Kiran Powar will be the head coach of Assam in the 2026-27 domestic season. Kiran Powar, a left-handed batsman, has played for a total of 5 teams including Mumbai, Baroda, Goa and Assam. In the last domestic season, Kiran was associated with Mumbai Under-23 team. Kiran was the head coach of the Mumbai Under-23 team and this will be his first stint with the senior team in which he will be the head coach.
Kiran Powar's career
Kiran Powar scored 2562 runs in first class cricket in 39 matches at an average of 42. 8 centuries and 14 half-centuries came from his bat. In List A, this player scored 867 runs in 32 matches at an average of more than 34. Even in this format, Powar scored one century and 5 half-centuries. Meaning Powar scored 9 centuries and 19 half-centuries in his professional career. Apart from this, he also took 19 wickets. Now Kiran Powar has been made the head coach of Assam for which he is ready. Kiran Powar told PTI, 'I am very happy to be appointed the coach of the Assam Ranji team. I am very eager to work with him.
Why did Kiran become the coach of Assam?
Kiran told that when he came with the Mumbai Under-23 team for the CK Nayudu Trophy, he was very impressed by the vision of Assam Cricket Association (ACA), due to which he accepted their offer to become their head coach. He said, 'When I came here as the coach of Mumbai Under-23 team, I was really impressed by their vision.' He also thanked Mumbai Cricket Association President Ajinkya Naik for his support.
Kiran said, 'I wholeheartedly thank MCA and its President Ajinkya Naik who supported me when many people were against me. I am leaving Mumbai with a heavy heart. Whatever I am today in life is because of Mumbai Cricket.
