Netflix has unveiled a forthcoming superhero series that promises to delight Marvel and DC enthusiasts alike.

This distinctive and thrilling comedy drama originates from South Korea and is situated in 1999, so audiences shouldn't anticipate a conventional comic book tale.

The WONDERfools chronicles a band of socially inept strangers who unexpectedly acquire superpowers following a peculiar occurrence.

As they unite to attempt unravelling what transpired, they're plunged into a wild journey while endeavouring to adjust to their fresh identities as "heroes" and confronting malevolent dangers to their hometown of Haeseong City, reports the Mirror.

Director Yoo In-sik is steering the series following the phenomenal triumph of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which viewers have hailed as amongst the "best K-dramas to date".

One IMDb user branded it "outstanding" in a 10/10 review, while another commented: "Totally captivated by this wonderful show! The lead, Park Eun-bin, is pitch-perfect."

Actress Park, most recognised for depicting the titular neurodivergent lawyer, is collaborating once more with director Yoo for The WONDERfools in the part of Eun Chae-ni.

She will be accompanied by Cha Eun-woo (True Beauty) as Lee Woon-jung, a specially appointed civic servant probing a series of mysterious disappearances. Choi Dae-hoon, Im Seong-jae, Kim Hae-sook, and Son Hyun-joo complete the principal cast.

Viewers won't have long to wait for this unmissable new K-drama, as it lands on Netflix in just under a month, on Friday, 15th May.

The streaming giant's latest announcement has already sent fans into a frenzy, with many adding the series straight to the top of their watchlist.

One K-drama enthusiast on X wrote: "I can't wait to see #CHAEUNWOO # in #TheWONDERfools #! It's going to be epic!"

"So ready for this! Let's go!!" another exclaimed, while a third simply posted: "I'm so excited."

The buzz carried over to Reddit, where one user commented: "From the writer of Extreme Job (which is hilarious) Can't wait for this. Also the return of Park Eun Bin!!"

"Have been looking forward to this one and I hope it doesn't disappoint," another wrote.

A further Redditor chimed in: "This looks like an absolute blast and what a great poster!!!"

While one final enthusiast declared: "park eunbin never misses, I am so ready for this."

Those who enjoyed Squid Game, Kingdom and Crash Landing On You would be doing themselves a disservice by overlooking this delightfully offbeat new Korean superhero drama.

The WONDERfools releases Friday, 15th May on Netflix.
