UK engineering firm plunges into administration - in business since 1996

A British engineering firm that generated revenue in excess of £13million has collapsed into administration after three decades in business. Engineering Technology Group (ETG) appointed financial advisory firm Teneo as administrators on April 15, according to public records filed on the Gazette today.

Trading as ETG, the company was founded in 1996 and had supplied machines across the UK from its base in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. According to its website, it is the UK's "leading provider" of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, a tool that automates precision cutting, shaping, and drilling of materials like wood, metal, plastic, and foam.

It is unclear why the company appointed administrators, but businesses usually do so when they are no longer financially viable. It enforces a "breathing space" (moratorium) to halt legal action.

However, ETG's latest public accounts up to December 2024 showed its turnover was on an upward trajectory. It had increased by £1.6million from 2023 to £13.7million. The Gross profit was 17.4%, down from 17.6% in 2023.

At the time, it said any short-term risk related to the "general economic environment and political uncertainty". The longer-term risks are related to "general fluctuations in the UK manufacturing economy as well as continued higher interest rates". But it said these were mitigated by the parent group's ability to allocate more or fewer resources to the company.

As of April 2026, Matthew James Cowlishaw and Paul James Meadows have been appointed to represent the firm from Teneo Financial Advisory Limited.

Administrators will take control from directors as they seek to maximise returns for creditors, either by selling off viable assets or restructuring the business.

The company works across a range of industries, including automotive, aerospace, medicine, tool making, defence, education and construction.

"At ETG, we provide a wide range of cutting-edge CNC machines," its website said. "We can call upon a vast portfolio of turning and milling machines from leading CNC machine tool brand names."

"We've partnered with some of the leading manufacturers of CNC fabrication machines, including Durma, so that our customers can first-hand experience the technical expertise and machine support that only the leading machine suppliers and manufacturers can provide."

Several British companies have appointed administrators over the last month. This included a UK delivery company, Quiver Delivery, and electric car provider WeFlex.

WeFlex had specialised in providing electric cars and flexible vehicle financing for ride-hailing drivers, such as those working for Uber and Bolt. Quiver Delivery, a London and Paris-based business, provided an emission-free delivery service.
