Archana Puran Singh will forever be remembered for her role in the 1987 film Jalwa; however, ever since, we’ve seen her play a certain kind of role only, and somehow or other, she’s gotten typecast over the years.

Most recently seen in the Netflix film Toaster, she’s been a part of the Kapil Sharma Show since 2019, and that sure made a difference in her signing films or shows.

Archana Puran Singh on not being able to take up films

When we saw Archana step in on The Kapil Sharma Show as she replaced Navjot Singh Sidhu, she sure became popular and relevant again, but it did affect her work in films. She told News18, “I haven’t been able to work in films for all these years. This one time, I got a call. They required me to travel to Scotland for a shoot for 25 days."

“But it wasn’t possible for me to leave the shoot of Kapil’s show and film elsewhere. Earlier, when the show used to be aired on TV, we would film a hundred episodes a year. That’s the reason I didn’t have time to anything else. I ended up saying no to a lot of films. And since I’ve said no so many times, people stopped approaching me for acting assignments," she further added.

However, she also revealed that now that they are shooting for Netflix, she think it’ll mean her getting a new lease of life, and she doesn’t have any commitment to be in India for the whole year, allowing her to travel.

She was also seen in Toaster recently, and before that, she’s worked with Rajkummar Rao in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.

Talking about working with him again, she said, “Rajkummar saw my work in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. That was the first that he and I was in a relationship of being colleagues. And that’s how Toaster happened. If didn’t work with him in that film, I may not have been a part of Toaster. And much like how that film gave way to Toaster, I’m hoping that Toaster gives way to at least two more films for me.”

Meanwhile, on a closing note, Archana also went on to highlight how, despite trying so much and having decades of experience, she isn’t able to convince filmmakers, and is often only tagged as the laughter queen.

She said, Nobody is offering me roles. They aren’t very convinced that I’m an actor. They still think that I’m somebody who sits on a chair and laughs.”
