Haj pilgrimage has started in India from 18th April. For this reason, many women left for Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The most important thing is that these women are going to perform Hajj without their mahram i.e. without their husbands. According to reports, around 5,446 Muslim women in India are set to undertake the pilgrimage without their husbands, of which 4,477 women are from Kerala.
Hajj pilgrimage is a very important and special pilgrimage in the religion of Islam. Because of this, every year millions of people from across the country and the world go to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for Hajj, where they visit the Kaaba, the holiest site of Islam. Although, women often go on Hajj pilgrimage with their husbands, but in the last few years, a big change has been seen where women are also going on pilgrimage without their husbands. These women are called LWM category. Now the question arises that since when have women in India been able to perform Hajj without a male companion.
LWM When did Haj pilgrimage start?
The Government of India started the Haj pilgrimage of LWM category i.e. ‘Lady without Mahram’ women in the year 2018 so that those women who do not have a husband can also go on Haj pilgrimage. This category includes women above 45 years of age who travel without their male companion. The Government of India makes arrangements for the travel and security of these women.
How many people will go for Hajj pilgrimage?
This year it is estimated that about 1,75,025 people from India are going to go on Haj pilgrimage. Of these, about 70 percent people will undertake the pilgrimage under the quota of the Government of India, while 30 percent will undertake the pilgrimage with the help of the Haj Committee.
Every year lakhs of people eagerly wait to go on Haj pilgrimage because it is believed that every prayer made by visiting Kaaba is accepted by Allah and relieves the person from sorrow, pain and suffering. Apart from this, Hajj is also special in Muslim religion because it is one of the five pillars (rules) of Islam. It is believed that every Muslim must visit Kaaba at least once in his life.
