The fiscal year of 2025–26 has been a great year for a lot of automotive manufacturers in India, as 47.05 lakh cars were sold in this period. Now, naturally, there are some cars which have performed a lot better than the others, and today we will be talking about the 5 cars which have gained the most amount of sales and have been on an upward trajectory.

The vehicle which has seen the biggest jump in sales on a Year-on-Year basis is the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. In the fiscal year of 2025–26, Toyota managed to sell 99,890 units of this SUV, helping it in achieving a sales growth of 65 percent on a Year-on-Year basis. Last month, in March, the company sold 10,206 units, which in the same month last year was 5,286 units, which means its sales grew by 93 percent.

Toyota has seen such a massive growth with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder because the SUV is offered with both strong and mild hybrid powertrain options. Another major reason is that, over the last fiscal year, Toyota has given a lot of discounts on the Hyryder and also released a few new editions which added to the sales tally. Overall, the reliability, value-for-money aspect, and Toyota’s brand value have helped the Hyryder sales.

It may come as a surprise to a lot of people, but the Mahindra Thar three-door and the ROXX five-door models have gained almost 50 percent sales in the span of FY 25–26. Mahindra sold a total of 1.26 lakh units of these SUVs and posted a sales growth of 49 percent on a Year-on-Year basis. Last month, 10,872 units of the Thar were sold in India, which, when compared to the same month last year (8,936 units), is up by 22 percent. A total of 1,26,261 units were sold in FY 2025–26.

Coming to the reasons behind the sales surge, it has mostly to do with the launch of the Thar ROXX, which has made the Thar a lot more practical. Many family buyers are now opting for this SUV, as it offers a lot of features, a proper 4X4 system, and great road presence. As for the three-door model, it still remains a crowd favorite due to its accessibility, imposing design, and reliability. Also, the offering of a 1.5-litre diesel engine with an RWD setup has helped both Thar ROXX and three-door models.

In FY 2025–26, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the best-selling vehicle, and the company sold a total of 2,29,130 units of this sedan in India. Overall, its Year-on-Year growth is 39 percent, which is very impressive. In March of this year, 21,224 units of the Dzire were sold, which, when compared to 15,460 units of March 2025, is up by 37 percent.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has become the best-selling Maruti Suzuki vehicle largely due to the fact that it offers a complete package. After getting the 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP, the demand for the Dzire in the budget sedan segment has gone through the roof. It also comes loaded with a ton of features, including a sunroof, automatic climate control, new LED headlights and taillights, and overall now looks a lot better and modern. All of these have helped the sales of the Dzire.

Sitting just below on the list of the top-selling cars of India in FY 2025–26 is the sub-compact SUV Tata Nexon. In total, Tata Motors sold 2,16,054 units and posted a sales growth of 32 percent, which is again very impressive. In March 2026, a total of 19,810 units were sold, and when compared to the same month last year, the sales were up by 21 percent, as the company sold 16,366 units.

The Tata Nexon is currently one of the most popular SUVs in the sub-compact SUV segment because of one big reason. It is one of the very few SUVs in the segment which offers all types of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric. Additionally, it comes loaded with features, including a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and many others. All of these things combined make it a super lucrative purchase.

Last on this list is the Tata Tiago hatchback. In FY 2025–26, Tata Motors sold 83,035 units, which helped it in growing by 20 percent in terms of Year-on-Year sales. Last month, 7,119 units of the Tiago were sold, which, when compared to last year, were down by 10 percent. In the same month last year, 7,946 units were sold.

The Tiago hatchback is also one of the most value-for-money cars in India, and combined with strong offers during the festive season and slower months, Tata Motors managed to dispatch a lot of Tiagos. Additionally, the Tata Tiago.ev is also on an upward trajectory, as it is currently one of the very few practical and affordable EV hatchbacks in the country.
